Inari with Sajo Parliament & Siida Museum of the Sámi people "Lapland Sea" and Fjäll Otsamo Tankavaara gold mining area Sompio nature reserve Canoe tour on Lake Luttojärvi
Itinerary
Arrival and first hike (Wednesday or Friday)
Self-drive from Helsinki to Ivalo in the morning. Reception at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Ivali to drop off your luggage. Inari is the centre of Sami culture in Lapland. The Sami Parliament and the Siida Sami Museum are located here. Lake Inari is the third largest lake in Finland and is also known as the "Lapland Sea".
The first highlight is certainly the 13-kilometre hike up Fjäll Otsama. The first three kilometres to the top of the fell are demanding because of the steep ascent, but the walk is worth it. You will not only see Lake Inari, but also hundreds of fells, hills, lakes and rivers. You can enjoy a picnic with this fabulous view of the "Lapland Sea". Then hike through pristine forest and along the Juutuajoki River back to the village of Inari to your hotel. Dinner of a typical Inari menu and overnight in the superior room of Hotel Kultahovi with private sauna and river view.

Gold mining village Tankavaara
The morning is at your leisure. At noon you take the bus from Inari to Tankavaara. Tankavaara is the gateway to Lapland's gold mining area. Here you can learn a lot about gold panning around the world at the Gold Museum and then try your hand at it yourself. When travelling from 5 to 8 August, you can watch the masters at work at the Gold Panning World Championship. The gold panning village of Tankavaara opened a beautiful new log cabin hotel in February this year and another building will be completed by the summer, so you can look forward to quality stylish accommodation. You will also have access to a sauna again. Overnight in the log cabin of the gold mining village Tankavaar.

Visit to the Magga-Hetta Sami Culture Gallery - Hike to Pyhä-Nattaset
Your guide will pick you up after breakfast. A visit to the Sami cultural gallery Magga-Hetta will introduce you to the mythology of Sami culture. Tuula-Maija Magga-Hetta is a Sami artist who has collected Sami art, textiles and everyday objects in her parents' old Lapland house in the village of Vuotso. She can tell you about the beliefs of the indigenous Sami people with drums and song. You will be served typical coffee with bread and pastries.
After the visit to Tuula-Maija, you will go on a hike (there and back 2.5 kilometres each way) to the top of Pyhä-Nattaset. At the top you will marvel at special rock formations of hard granite rock in the Sompio Nature Reserve (picnic). They are more than five metres high and look like the work of an artist. These so-called table formations are probably made of the hardest parts of the granite rock, where weathering has been slower than in the surrounding rock. At the hotel you have free time, e.g. for a sauna. Overnight again in the log cabin of the gold mining village Tankavaara.

Full day excursion and departure
After breakfast you will set off on a wonderful canoe trip. This starts in Saariselkä, where a canoe guide will pick you up. He will give you all the necessary information about canoeing and safety. Paddling on a winding river without big rapids is a relaxing experience. The canoe trip is about 15 km long and winds through beautiful forest and heath landscapes. During the approximately eight-hour canoe trip, you have endless opportunities for photography. There are a few tiny rapids along the way that pleasantly speed up your journey. A lunch break around the campfire with soup, dessert and tea or coffee is also planned.
After the canoe tour, you will be driven directly to Ivalo airport, from where you will travel back to Helsinki in the evening. Or you can extend your trip with more beautiful nature regions of Finland.
