Sample Tour: In the heart of Central America
We have planned and carried out this example tour for clients in exactly the same way. It is a combination of different regions in Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and Belize. Partly private guided tours are planned, then again time at your own disposal with suggestions and by rental car.
Such a sample tour is meant to show you what is possible. And it should give you some ideas. You are welcome to tell us your individual wishes and ideas - we will use them to create your own personal dream trip in our travel manufactory. Please feel free to call us or contact us.
And here is the journey: On a trip to Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and Belize you will be amazed by the Mayas, rainforests, volcanoes and dream beaches. Nowhere else are the Caribbean and Pacific seas so close to each other as here in Central America. Experience a round trip full of the colours of traditional costumes, fruits and birds. Marvel at the fascinating world of the Maya, immerse yourself in the cultural and scenic highlights and travel through pristine rainforests, to bubbling volcanoes and to tropical dream beaches. Itinerary
Arrival in Cancún/Mexico
Upon arrival in Cancún, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the hotel.
Tulum - Bacalar - Chicanna
In the morning, you will travel south in a comfortable bus. Your destination is probably the most beautifully situated Mayan site on the Yucatán Peninsula. The fortress of Tulum proudly presents itself on a rock above the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea. After the visit, you will continue your two-hour drive to the enchanting lagoon of Bacalar, where you can have lunch on the shore (not included in the price), before arriving in Chicanna in the late afternoon, where you will move into a jungle lodge. You can end the evening at the hotel pool.
- Breakfast
Calakmul - Palenque
The Mayan site of Calakmul is considered an insider tip and impresses with its originality. The huge cult site - one of the largest in the Mayan world - is located in the largest contiguous rainforest area in Mexico. You will then drive to Palenque at the foothills of the Yucatán Peninsula. Overnight stay in a hotel surrounded by lush jungle vegetation.
- Breakfast
Palenque - Agua Azul - San Cristobal de las Casas
Today you will first go to the Agua Azul waterfalls, 60 kilometres from Palenque. You will reach them in about an hour's drive on a winding road. Over a stretch of several kilometres, the terrace falls make their way through the rainforest. You can take a refreshing dip at marked spots. From Agua Azul, the ride becomes winding and in about three hours you overcome almost 2,000 metres in altitude. The stage goes from the tropical humid rainforest with lush jungle vegetation to much more temperate areas of the highlands of Chiapas, where coniferous forests dominate the landscape. Your destination for the day is San Cristóbal de las Casas, melting pot of the local indigenous cultures.
- Breakfast
Indigenous Peoples of Zinacantán and San Juan Chamula
In Zinacantán and San Juan Chamula you will learn about the culture and ancient rituals of the indigenous people of the Tzotzil Mayan tribe. Possibility of lunch in San Cristobál de las Casas. In the afternoon, you will visit the church of Santo Domingo and then have time for a tour on your own.
- Breakfast
San Cristobal - Cautemoc - Panajachel - Lake Atitlán
After breakfast, drive towards the Guatemalan border. Patience is required at the post between Cautemoc and Mesilla. Experience how the authorities work in Central America and don't lose your nerves (you have more than enough time). In the afternoon you reach the nice village of Panajachel on the picturesque Lake Atitlan. Here you will take a boat trip with wonderful photo opportunities of the San Pedro volcano and the village of Santiago de Atitlan opposite.
- Breakfast
Panajachel - Antigua
We drive over the mountain road from Panajachel to Antigua, probably the most beautiful city in Guatemala, which was also the capital of the country for a time during the colonial rule of the Spanish. The colonial alleys of Antigua will enchant you.
- Breakfast
Antigua - Visit to a coffee plantation
Today you will enjoy Antigua and its immediate surroundings. You will visit a coffee plantation together and then have the opportunity to learn the art of tasting and try different types of coffee in Antigua. End the day in a cosy restaurant on the main square and feel transported back to colonial times.
- Breakfast
Antigua - Copán in Honduras
Early in the morning you leave Antigua and drive to Copán in Honduras. The drive goes through the bustling metropolis of Guatemala City and then through varied landscapes. Once in Copán, you will visit the impressive Mayan sites. The site was one of the most important in the Mayan Empire during the Classic Mayan period (around 250 to 900 AD). Copán was strategically built on a river. The valley through which the river flows is flanked by mountains up to 2,000 metres high, which provide a temperate climate. After the visit, you will move into your accommodation for tonight not far from the cult cities.
- Breakfast
Copán - Rio Dulce - Livingston
After breakfast, we head back towards Guatemala. The destination is the Rio Dulce, or more precisely its delta. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to hike on a natural medicine trail directly from the romantic hotel on the Rio Dulce. Alternatively and optionally, you can take a boat tour in the delta to the lively village of Livingston, which has a Guatemalan Caribbean feeling. Stroll through the alleys there and end the day with a margarita.
- Breakfast
Tikal
Today you will head for an absolute highlight of your trip: the archaeological site of Tikal, which awaits its visitors amidst lush jungle vegetation. Beforehand, you will make a stop (for an optional lunch) on the picturesque island of Flores on Lake Peten. From here you will continue to Tikal. The visit to one of the most important Mayan sites takes about three hours. To enjoy the jungle to the fullest, you will spend the night in a comfortable lodge not far from the excavation sites. Later in the afternoon, you have the option of a jungle hike with a local guide.
- Breakfast
Tikal - San Ignacio in Belize
After breakfast, you set off for the fourth country of your journey. At the border crossing to Belize, a little patience is again in order; Central American bureaucracy can take a while. Your destination for the day is not far from the border: San Ignacio is located in the middle of the country's jungle region. From the simple but clean jungle camp, you take an afternoon hike to a romantic waterfall. There you can take a refreshing bath. Optionally, you can also do some sports on a kayak tour.
- Breakfast
San Ignacio - Belize City - Ambergris Caye
Today you will cross Belize and reach its largest city Belize City on the Caribbean coast. Originally founded as a penal colony, you can still clearly see the English colonial influence today. Most of the buildings in the city are mostly very colourful wooden houses. From Belize City, leave shortly after noon for the charming island of Ambergris Caye. San Pedro is its only settlement and offers a relaxed Caribbean feeling, beautiful sandy beaches and ideal conditions for snorkelling and diving.
