Itinerary
Arrival in San Jose
Welcome to the rainforest paradise of Costa Rica! Reception at the airport and drive to the hotel.
Largest volcanic crater and lowland rainforest
After breakfast, depart for the Poás National Park and Volcano. On a clear day, you will experience the fantastic view into one of the largest volcanic craters in the world. During a hike to the Botos Lagoon, you will immerse yourself in a mystical forest. Then drive to Boca Tapada in the far north of Costa Rica near Nicaragua. Here in the lowland rainforest you will experience rural life and the unique river landscape of the Río San Carlos.

Boat tour with animal observation
Today you will explore the Río San Carlos by rubber dinghy or kayak (approx. 2 hours). On the banks you can observe howler monkeys, toucans, iguanas, crocodiles, a variety of water birds and, with a lot of luck, a puma or jaguar. In the afternoon, you can relax at leisure or book an optional horseback tour or night hike.

Tropical Rainforest and Arenal Volcano
Morning hike through the rainforest. The humidity, high temperatures, the smell of damp earth and exotic bird songs cast a spell over you. Around noon, bus ride to the imposing Arenal Volcano. This cone-shaped stratovolcano was constantly active until 2010, but since then the visible activity has decreased. In the evening, relax in the thermal springs at the foot of Fire Mountain in a tropical ambience.

Lava fields and giant trees in Arenal Volcano National Park
After breakfast, we head to the Arenal Volcano National Park. On the way you will see huge lava boulders from the last strong eruption in 1968. Hike along a small path through the secondary forest; sometimes small wild pigs and leafcutter ants cross the path. Arriving at the lava field, you will see numerous solidification forms and have a breathtaking view of the volcano and Lake Arenal. If you still feel like it, you can make a detour to a gigantic ceiba tree with the tour guide. At noon, stop for lunch in the small town of La Fortuna. Optional lunch in a local restaurant. Afterwards, you can go for a stroll, relax at the hotel pool or go on a canopy adventure (optional).

Pineapple fields and light blue waterfall in Tenorio National Park
The destination for the day is Río Celeste in Tenorio National Park, about two hours from La Fortuna. On the way, we stop at one of the huge pineapple plantations. Your guide will explain the production of the exotic fruit. The next destination is the "arbol de la paz", an impressive jungle giant with history. Arriving at the national park, a challenging hike begins through the primary rainforest to the uniquely beautiful, light blue waterfall of the Rio Celeste. The hike can take between three and six hours, depending on the fitness and walking mood of the group. Afterwards dinner in the small restaurant at the park exit (included). Arrival at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Coffee Tour and Monteverde Cloud Forest
The next stop is the Monteverde cloud forest, about five hours away. The drive takes you around Lake Arenal with magnificent views of the Arenal Volcano. The cloud forest captivates with its breathtaking beauty. The climate is fresher and you can even shiver in the evening at 15 degrees. After check-in at the hotel, we continue on to a coffee tour, where you will learn everything about the cultivation and processing of the precious bean and finally enjoy one of the best coffees in the world at the tasting.

On suspension bridges through the treetops
Pure adventure! Over suspension bridges you go through the treetops of the cloud forest. You will get to know the flora and fauna from a completely new perspective and see capuchin monkeys, toucans and often also the unique bird of the gods, the quetzal. Optional further tours in the afternoon.

Dry forest ecosystem
After breakfast, drive to the Guanacaste region, the land of the Costa Rican cowboys (baqueros) with vast pastures, cattle ranches and haciendas. On the way you will meet the colourful fiery red macaws. Your lodge is located at the foot of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano. After arrival, you can go for a walk on the hacienda, watch the baqueros herd the cattle and horses, take a bath in the thermal springs at the Rio Negro (optional) or treat yourself to a treatment with volcanic mud in the spa (optional).

Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park
Today you will experience geysers and fumaroles up close in the Rincón de la Vieja National Park. In the Las Pailas sector you will go through the dry forest. There are many spiny bushes, lianas and also cotton trees and towards February the national flower of Costa Rica, the Guardia Morada orchid, blooms here. Armadillos, coatis and even tapirs are at home here.

Sun, sea and beach
Departure after breakfast to Liberia with a large supermarket where you can do some essential shopping before continuing to the beach at Playa Carillo. Your hotel is in a quiet and idyllic location, a bit out of the way from the nearest small village, where there are a handful of restaurants. After check-in, your guide and driver will say goodbye to you. Now you have time to let the impressions of the trip sink in and relax.

Pure relaxation! Near Playa Carillo is the village of Samara with a beautiful bathing bay. In Playa Carillo you can sunbathe on the beach, take surfing or horseback riding lessons or a kayak tour through the mangroves. Arrange your free days according to your taste.

Back to the pulsating heart of Costa Rica
A shuttle bus will pick you up at the hotel in the early afternoon and take you back to San José, which you will reach in the evening.
